Understanding the Procedure
A dental crown is a shell of porcelain custom-crafted to restore a dental implant or cover an existing tooth that needs strengthening. Dr. Lopez uses all-ceramic crowns at his state-of-the-art practice to avoid the unsightliness of metal crowns. The tooth-colored material used to fabricate dental bridges and crowns provides incredibly natural results. Dental bridges are created using the same porcelain material. Bridges are essentially sets of crowns, milled together to fill the gaps left by missing teeth. A typical bridge would include a prosthetic to fill the gap and two adjoining crowns used to anchor the bridge to the surrounding teeth.
During the first of two treatment appointments, Dr. Lopez will prepare your teeth for a dental bridge or crown by removing any decayed or damaged material along with enough enamel to make room for the restoration. Once your tooth is the correct size and shape, an impression of your bite will be used to create a mold from which your crown or bridge will be fabricated at a world-class dental laboratory.
Your second treatment appointment will be scheduled once your dental bridges or crowns have been completed and sent back to our Denver office. During this visit, your prepared tooth will be thoroughly cleaned and then lightly buffed to optimize the bonding surface. After checking the fit and appearance of your restoration, Dr. Lopez will attach it to your tooth using special bonding cement.
Typically, we will schedule your follow-up appointment a week or two after treatment to make sure that your mouth is adapting well to your new teeth.
Understanding the Benefits
If you're living with teeth that are broken, chipped, cracked, misaligned, overlapping, poorly spaced, discolored, decaying, or missing, dental bridges and crowns can provide you with incredible oral health benefits. Teeth with structural flaws can make it difficult to clean your teeth and gums as well as they need to be. Plaque builds up in cracks or between overlapping teeth and can eventually lead to gum disease and even tooth loss. Additionally, damage to your teeth can make it difficult to bite and chew normally; these simple tasks may even become painful. Large breaks or missing teeth can also make speech difficult. Replacing your imperfect teeth with dental bridges and crowns is what our Denver team does best. We will restore your mouth to exceptional health, provide functional chewing surfaces, and boost your smile's appearance to improve your self-confidence.
